Greek & Roman Gods: Mostly Decoration

Unlike the Hindu or Chinese gods, the gods from Greek and Roman mythology were not worshiped nor prayed for a favor in Thailand, i.e., no incense-sticks and offerings. Most Thais did not know anything about them except in passing from movies and series. However, many statues had been erected for decorating purposes in Western-themed buildings or gardens.

Neptune/Poseidon


The name of the Greek God of the Sea had been most probably most widely known of all the Greek/Roman gods in Thailand. Unfortunately, it was due to the Poseidon Entertainment Complex on Ratchadapisek red-light district which offered adult-oriented hospitality. According to their website, the business ranged from the restaurant, karaoke, Thai massage, soapy massage, and many more. Hence, the name Poseidon had a sleazy undertone meaning in Thailand.

Eros/Cupid


The statues of cute and chubby cupid with little bows aiming for love has positively well-received as garden decorations. I don't think that I had ever seen the adult version anywhere in Thailand. I also had a feeling that people got confused between Cupid and cherubs in general and called these little ones with wings a Cupid by default.

It was said that Pokemon Go started as an April's Fool joke in 2013. The Google Maps' Pokemon Challenge YouTube clips was really impressive and imaginative by any measure. Tokyo Sweets: Signature Seal Pup Mochi

Japanese food has been trendy in Thailand. In some trendy shopping mall, there were more Japanese restaurants than Thai ones. A recent addition was a confectionery shop Tokyo Sweets. The menu included strawberry daifuku, mochi cream, mochiese, mizu suishyo mochi, and tiramisu. One of the signature sweet, Mochi Mochi (seal pup-shaped mochi), were so very cute and reminded me of the seel Pokemon. The skin colors indicated the filling - white for red beans, pale pink for raspberry or strawberry and pale lavender for sweet potatoes. There was a new chocolate bear which was similar to seals but had legs. These adorable seal pup mocha are well-accepted. When the shops were reviewed, there were inevitably video clips about the pup murdering methods, usually biting or clean cutting from the head or tail.
