Espresso, InterContinental Bangkok: Dining On a Pokemon Gym
Thais are very big on eatings. There had been hosts of restaurant and hotel buffet reviews around. This blog was not particularly into this category due to my ineptitude in photo-taking. If you wish to see the photos, please follow the provided external link.
The Espresso has been a restaurant in the InterContinental Bangkok in the shopping district of Ratchaprasong. It offered breakfast, lunch, and dinner international buffets. The menu included appetizer, salad, bread, sushi, dim sum, soup, pasta, rice dishes, noodles, seafood, and roasted beef, etc. For desserts, there was a good selection of cakes, pudding, ice cream and fruits, followed by hot chocolate, tea or coffee with occasional late arts. There was no cheese platter, though. In short, it had all the trapping of buffets in a 5-star hotel.
For Pokemon Go trainers, this restaurant had an added bonus; it practically situated on a Pokemon gym. To be precise, the gym was located at a statue in front of the hotel, about 20 meters or so away. Somehow, most of the lobby and Espresso seating area were nicely in the gym-attacking zone. As this gym was in the shopping area and could be accessed from the Sky Walk under the track of the BTS elevated trains and just a stone throw away from the Chit Lom E1 BTS Station, there were lots of people around. Usually, it was not difficult to form legendary raid teams at any time. Even for low star raids, there were at least one or two people joined the fun.

The gym itself was worthy of note as it featured the statue of Narayana astride Garuda, one of the Eight Hindu Gods of Ratchaprasong. At the foot of the statue, there was the proper prayer script on a board on the right side as well as flowers and elephant doll offerings. So, do not be surprised if someone actually prayed there. There was also some bench on the left side which one could sit down to interact with the gym. On the minus side for myself as a non-smoker, this sitting area was that it was used as the smoking zone.
